February’s Monthly Connection
Dear Friends of the Singing River Trail,
To say the outpour of support and excitement for the Singing River Trail’s mission and purpose these past several weeks has been overwhelming, is an understatement. Thank you for the incredibly warm welcome back to North Alabama and to the Singing River Trail family. To feel the energy around ensuring established and planned developments and finding ways to actively incorporate outdoor recreation space to enjoy the beauty of nature and throughout the Northern Region of our great state is inspiring and motivating. What has made and will continue to contribute to the success of SRT are the people leading the charge and behind the scenes. I have met some of the most amazing and passionate people about this project, our programs, and the general work of the Singing River Trail. Their enthusiasm and dedication to SRT solidifies the magnitude of our objective, to connect the past, present and future of North Alabama’s most vibrant and thriving communities, one trail at a time.
We are excited to celebrate the Year of the Trail with Alabama Tourism and other organizations across the state in 2025. Alabama offers diverse options such as physical trails for hiking, biking, paddling and horseback riding and itineraries to explore golf courses, city Main Streets, wine tastings, historical churches and sites, Native American Heritage landmarks and more. The Singing River Trail has finished planning 180 miles of new trails, is actively planning 67 additional trails, and has 51 miles of new and existing SRT greenway constructed, open to the public, and will be fully activated this year with wayfinding signage.
Additionally, whether you’re a trail enthusiast or a family looking for a way to get out and explore the great outdoors, the Singing River Trail is here to help. Visit www.SingingRiverTrail.com and click to find a trail near you. Soon, this process will become even more user friendly as work is underway on a new interactive map that will provide detailed information about types of trails that are available, and that are currently in design and under construction.
As we dive deeper into the world of premiere trail building, we can share that trail construction is a process that requires significant funding, time, planning, research, and surveying before construction can begin and activation is possible. I would like to thank all of our stakeholders, federal, state, regional and local leaders, and community partners for your continued support and dedication to the vision of a vibrant and connected North Alabama. By linking 220 miles of existing and future trails, we know the exponential impact will strengthen regional bonds; creating health and wellness, educational, economic, tourism, entrepreneurial, quality of life, and workforce opportunities for the people and communities of North Alabama.
The journey of 220 miles begins with you, and we need you now more than ever! Donate, Volunteer, spread the SRT vision and help us continue to turn this audacious plan into a life changing reality for the future of everyone in our region and beyond.
See you on the Singing River Trail!
Sincerely,
Misti Potter
Executive Director
