Thank you for your passion for the Singing River Trail. I became Executive Director in January, and since then, our team, board, and partners have worked hard to recharge the momentum of our 220-mile vision.
We’ve updated routes, re-engaged communities, and advanced multiple projects, including trails under construction, bid finalizations, wayfinding signage fabrication/installation, and we are now planning groundbreakings
and ribbon cuttings! We have been purposeful in sign designs, working with each community, to ensure they are designed to honor the fidelity and names of local trail icons, like Richard Martin, while adding safety points for longer routes such as Wheeler Refuge, since a significant portion of the Singing River Trail involves assuming existing trails and greenways as part of the building out the bigger SRT network. We also beta-tested augmented reality for outdoor museums with a public launch planned by year’s end.
Coming Sept–Nov to: Colbert , Limestone, Lawrence & Madison counties
-Two groundbreakings(funding confirmation pending)
-Wayfinding signage fabrication and installed.
-3-4 ribbon cuttings on existing trails, with new SRT signage
-Jackson County: Completion of Master Trail Plan
Trail building, even when assuming an existing trail or greenway, is a long process. Trail construction can take multiple years and millions of dollars. It is estimated to cost $1M+ per mile depending on urban or rural setting, and they generally require extensive studies, permitting, and funding. The SRT team is committed to seeing this through for future generations, and we thank you for your continued support and understanding.
I am happy to schedule calls/virtual meetings to answer questions and/or provide information. If you’re local, let’s grab a coffee. If you’re part of a community group, we would welcome an invitation to share what’s going on at SRT.
